Contribution to the Economy

Benefiting the National Economy

It is estimated that one in five Australian jobs are either directly or indirectly export related. In rural and regional Australia this increases to one in four. Nationally, exports account for around one quarter of income derived by regional Australia.

Exports account for around 20 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

And yet only four per cent of Australian businesses are currently exporting.

Benefiting Workers

Research shows that exporters make better employers, outperforming non-exporters in their provision of employment conditions and occupational health and safety standards. Significantly, employees in exporting businesses also receive far better wages than those in non-exporting businesses. With exporting businesses contributing 16 per cent of national employment, these gains are significant.

Employment generation and infrastructure development ensures that export dollars contribute directly to the national economy and to individuals.
